Thank you for your interest in the resources of the Pennsylvania Room. We always hope that our researchers will be able to visit us in person, but if you can’t make it to our corner of Pennsylvania, we still may be able to help you track down the information you need.
Presently we offer photocopying or scanning services of obituaries, newspaper articles, government records, and some publications. Due to lack of staff and the large volume of requests we receive, we cannot offer in-depth research services. Requests must be received in writing unless otherwise noted and fees will be retained regardless of the request’s success.
Obituaries
$5.30 each, maximum of four obituaries per written request
Please provide the deceased’s name and at least the month and year of their death. If you haven’t been able to determine this information, give us a call. We may be able to help you find it.
For deaths occurring between 1906 and the 1960s, you might find the state’s Death Indices helpful in finding this date.
Make your request by printing and mailing our Microsoft Word form or our fillable PDF form.
Newspaper Articles
$5.30 each, maximum of four articles per written request
Please write to us with the following information: date of publication, title of the newspaper, and information about the article such as the headline or the subject matter.
We require at least the month and year of the article’s publication to fulfill a request. Please note that we have Uniontown newspapers from 1805 – present and the Brownsville Clipper from 1889 – 1912.
For Brownsville newspapers, contact the Manderino Library of the California University of Pennsylvania.
For Connellsville newspapers, contact the Carnegie Free Library of Connellsville.
Some of the Uniontown and Connellsville newspapers are available on subscription sites like Ancestry.com and Newspapers.com.
Civil Registration and Government Records
The following fee schedule applies to these look-ups: $5.00 to initiate the request, $1.00 for every additional printed or scanned page after the first, plus tax. Because these requests are more complicated, we ask that you call, email, or write to us before sending any payment.
Civil registration and government records include:
- Birth records
- Death records
- Marriage records
- Wills
- Orphan’s Court records
- Tax records
- Deeds
- Census records
