Dear Family Researcher:

Thank you for your interest in the Library's research services. The informational packet that you will receive includes only the indices of ten secondary sources located in the Pennsylvania Room. Please note: copyrighted material will not be copied without the signed authorization of the copyright holder. Researchers assume all responsibility for questions of copyright and invasion of privacy that may arise in copying and in the use of materials copied. We will begin the search of the ten sources upon receiving your permission and the pre-paid amount listed. The research focuses on the families of Fayette County, Pennsylvania from the 1780s to the early 1900s. If the search produces only negative results, we will try to offer suggestions that may help you continue your Fayette County research. We also encourage you to include primary sources such as courthouse and church records in your investigation.

We regret that we cannot guarantee positive results. Depending upon the level of difficulty or the amount of time used to conduct the research by the staff, a fee for the actual research will be retained by the Library. Please know that we cannot offer a more detailed level of research due to the large volume of requests that we receive. We will include a list of researchers, one of whom you may wish to hire in order to continue your research; this is not an endorsement for we accept no responsibility for their services.

If you have questions concerning the status of your query, please telephone us. Requests will be answered as soon as possible depending on the volume of requests that we have received. Please allow up to two months for the results of your research. Most queries will be answered much sooner. Per obituary lookups, please do not request more than fifteen obituaries per request. Staff will not hand write parts of obituaries or articles that do not fit on one page. Please refer to charges per copies listed to the right. We use the same ten resources with each surname listed.
