Welcome to the Pennsylvania Room

Come join us as we travel back in time together…

The Pennsylvania Room has a tremendous collection of genealogical materials as well as local history. The collection is truly unique. This is a well organized, user friendly collection that offers much to the amateur researcher as well as scholars and historians. We have been collecting Fayette County materials for over 65 years. The PA Room is one of the treasures of the Library. Genealogy research has become one of the top hobbies in the world. Individuals as well as the community have joined us in our quest to help promote and preserve books, images, and all materials relating to genealogy and local history. It is our intention to have something for everyone who enters the “Room.”

If you are a local person or one who is traveling through the County; you must add the PA Room to your list of places to visit. You will be amazed by the treasures we have to offer. You will discover something new every day when you visit the PA Room. In addition to this wonderful collection, we would like to invite you to help us to preserve our local history by donating items to the Room. We are currently in search of Fayette County yearbooks, business ledgers, memorabilia from the Coal and Coke era and earlier, World War I and II information, photographs, genealogies, ledgers, church records, military information, art work, glassware, books, diaries, and Bibles containing family information, scrapbooks, organization histories, and any primary resources.

Learning about local history and the people that once resided here can be quite interesting. I am inviting the teachers in Fayette County to work along with us by introducing local history into their classroom assignments. We are a County that is rich in local history. Tours are welcomed and offered.

Stop in; you may be surprised by how much you can learn about the early history of the County. You may even locate that long lost relative.
I am looking forward to your visit.

Curator of the Pennsylvania Room
